Waminda Birthing on Country program has made very exciting progress in the past 12 months! We have now secured land to build our Gudjaga Gunyahlamai Birth Centre and have been working alongside architects and designers from Papesch to bring the community’s vision for the Birth Centre to life. Our team has expanded significantly and now includes an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, six midwives, two child and family health nurses, three research and an admin officer, all guided by our Birthing on Country manager Mel Briggs.
We are also excited to have employed two new members in the Birthing on Country research team who are local Koori women. They will be working on the various research projects that Waminda are engaged in, relating to the health and wellbeing of mother and babies with the vision of decolonising healthcare research by privileging Aboriginal voices and ways of knowing, being and doing.
You can keep an eye out for our new social media channels launching soon! Look for us on instagram @birthingoncountry_waminda and on Facebook Waminda – Birthing on Country. Come and see us anytime at 10 Osborne St, Nowra.
