Strong Women, Strong Community, Leading The Way!

23/01/2025
Waminda’s Board of Management and Chief Executive Leaders hosted our very first ‘Strong Women, Strong Community, Leading the Way’ Waminda National Conference, in honour and celebration of 40 years of Aboriginal Women in leadership. We gathered with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women from many countries with the conference taking place at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 17th September. Waminda’s National Conference ran for 3 days with sessions to allow space for Aboriginal Women to connect, heal, listen, support and uplift each other.

We delivered an On Country session at Balaang Gunyah to ensure we shared our story of our home and culture. The women felt welcomed and grounded being away from their home countries and ready for the next two big days ahead. We invited panellists, speakers, special guests and delegates from different countries to experience this milestone event with us, including keynote speakers, Aunty Dr Jackie Huggins and Aunty June Oscar, who shared their journey’s, knowledge on first nations health, community and advocacy. We are honoured to have had the opportunity to bring Aboriginal women together to share this special historic moment with us from Waminda. Knowing that we had created a safe, grounding and empowering space for the women who attended is all we could’ve hoped for and more. We can only imagine how all the women felt, returning to their countries and communities, feeling empowered, heard and the fire in their bellies ignited, as we felt this as one during this time together.
